James 2 has long been a text that has been surrounded with controversy and confusion. Many have mistakenly thought that James is stating that we are saved by works. However, James demonstrates not that we are saved by works, but that our works demonstrate and prove the faith that we have already been given. Those who are followers of Christ ought to also be those who are quick to love their neighbor, those who do not show partiality, those who are quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to be angry. James is stating not that we are saved by what we do, but that saved people are hearers and doers of the word.
