The Sin of Partiality

James makes the point very clearly that we cannot be partial to others based upon their external appearance, or their net worth. James gives three reasons for why we must not play favorites in the church. We cannot play favorites because of God's character. God is repeatedly shown to be impartial in the Bible (Deuteronomy 10:17; Romans 2:11; James 2:1, 5). James also shows us that we cannot be partial because it is foolish (James 2:4-7. And finally, James teaches us not to be partial because partiality is a sin (James 2:9).
